Special needs education

Special needs education is split into various types, tailored to the general and specialised educational needs of the children. These needs are established on the basis of the primary disability, enabling children to be brought together in group courses corresponding to the shared needs.

Like other types of education, special needs education in Brussels is the remit of the French and Flemish Communities.

• The French Community’s website explains the various types of primary and secondary special needs education types of primary and secondary special needs education (FR). It also publishes a directory of institutions (FR) in the Brussels-Capital Region.
• The Flemish Community website devotes a whole section to primary special needs education (NL), with a directory of schools and another to secondary special needs education (NL).
